CHALLENGES TO THE GREAT LAKES
Those in the know agree that the Great Lakes that stretch along the boundary of the United States and Canada are in trouble. The question is, what is to be done.

Black Rock Lock A safe passage for almost a century
Built almost a century ago, the Black Rock Lock continues to provide water vessels with safe passage around the tumultuous Niagara and, in tandem with the Erie Canal, a link between Lake Erie and the Atlantic Ocean.

In the bowels of the earth
Conditions don’t get much tougher than they do at Australia’s Mount Isa copper mine, where hundreds of pumps work non-stop to dewater the tunnels that crisscross the mine’s 31 underground levels. The new Flygt 2600 series is put to the challenge.

For generations to come
The fact that much of the magnificence of North America’s Lake Michigan – and indeed, all of the Great Lakes – remains today can be attributed to one determined woman, Lee Botts, who has devoted her life to preserving the lakes.

State of the art in Louisiana
Replacing a large lift station in Shreveport, Louisiana, proved the most cost-effective option for rectifying a worsening situation.

Increased flow gets rid of sludge
At the large sewage plant in Duisburg-Rheinhausen, Germany, the formation of sedimentation in the plant’s mud tanks was a costly problem. By making alterations to the tanks and installing new mixers, ITT Flygt increased the flow in the tanks with lasting success: Sedimentation no longer occurs in the tanks.

Man of microbes
Professor Perry L McCarty, Silas H Palmer Professor Emeritus at Stanford University, is the latest recipient of the Stockholm Water Prize. His research strives for a better understanding of complex biological systems involved in water pollution control, but, he says, “Groundwater sources, if protected properly, will be the cheapest source of the best possible water for drinking.”

Easier spare parts management
New repair kits for drainage pumps make servicing simpler and cheaper.

Sustainability key to the future
ITT Flygt shall actively strive to achieve sustainable development. The successes along the way are a good deal for customers and the environment alike.
